Deadbolt Bolt-on 02-09 WRX & STi Turbochargers
TD05H-16G - TD05H-18G - TD06H-18G - TD06H-20G - SuperZilla SZ49 - Special Order Turbos
JSC Speed is pleased to offer the Deadbolt line of bolt-on Mitsubishi and Hybrid turbochargers for the 2002-09 Subaru WRX and STi. Please note that we have chosen to stock a select few of Deadbolt's turbochargers, including the TD05H-16G, Zilla TD05H 18G, Zilla TD06H-18G, Zilla TD06H-20G, and the Superzilla SZ49 TDO6 Hybrid Turbo w/ a 2.4" Inlet and Internal Wastegate. All of the WRX & STi turbos we carry from Deadbolt use a 7cm exhaust housing, 8cm being an upgrade of $150-250 depending on model. Deadbolt uses the 7cm housing standard even on their large Super Zilla WRX & STi turbos because of the huge flow their fat boy turbine wheels already provide. JSC Speed's reasoning for stocking the particular Deadbolt Subaru turbos we do is as follows:

TD05H-16G: This is a no frills, 16G upgrade for the 02-05 2.0L WRX, designed to give bang-for-the-buck performance, so we kept it simple.
Zilla TD05H-18G: Deadbolt's Zilla turbos are ported and coated. The TD05H-18G works well on 2.0L cars because the smaller exhaust housing makes it spool faster. It's also a good 2.5L street turbo.
Zilla TD06H-18G: We're offering Deadbolt's Zilla TD06H-18G as well as the TD05 variant becasue the TD06 flows a little bit better and makes better overall power, but produces a little bit more lag, making it more suitable for 2.5L cars and a little too big for 2.0L street cars.
Zilla TD06H-20G: We're not stocking Deadbolt's TD05H-20G because customers going for a 20G typically want more power and are less concerned with lag. This is a powerful turbo for 2.5L cars and the biggest of the bolt-on "street" Mitsubishi WRX & STi turbos.
Superzilla SZ49: JSC Speed stocks this turbo with an internal wastegate and 2.4" inlet for simplicity; in this configuration, the SZ49 shines as a truly bolt-on big turbo, that isn't going to require alot of plumbing changes, etc. to run.

deadbolt td05h 16g wrx turbocharger Deadbolt TD05H-16G:
Very quick spoolup is the key attribute of the TD05-16G turbo, originally developed for early 2.0L WRX models. Deadbolt was the first in the US to offer this turbo as a regular stock item. This turbo qualifies for Deadbolt's Free Rebuilds for Life Plan. We do not reccomend the 16G turbo for 2.5L cars, but it is an excellent upgrade for 02-05 2.0L WRXes. This turbo is buit with a 7cm2 exhaust housing and is capable of high 200whp numbers with the proper supporting modifications.

Deadbolt's Zilla TD05 Series turbochargers are designed for quick spool, which is due to the TD05H housing. The 18G is a good entry-level turbo for 2.5L Subarus, and a good "big" turbo for 2.0L WRXs. The TD05 18G turbo is built with a 7cm2 exhaust housing and can easily cross the 300whp mark with the proper supporting modifications. This turbo qualifies for Deadbolt's Free Rebuilds for Life program.

The Deadbolt Zilla TD06H-18G is similar in size to the TD05H-18G, but offers higher overall power output, at the expense of spool time. If you're looking for a little more power out of your Subaru, but don't want to jump to a 20G, this is a good turbo to pick, as it is a little bit slower to spool, but is capable of higher numbers than its TD05 little brother (It pushes about 50 more CFM at 14.7psi). The TD06H-18G is a good turbo for 2.5L STis and late WRXs; 2.0L cars might want to consider the TD05H-18G for less lag. This turbo can easily cross the 300whp mark with the proper supporting modifications. This turbo qualifies for Deadbolt's Free Rebuilds for Life program.

Deadbolt's Zilla TD06 Series turbochargers are designed more overall power than their TD05 counterparts, with slightly more lag. The Deadbolt Zilla TD06H-20G is a big turbo that can support about 350whp on a 2.5L STi or late model WRX, and can easily approach the 400whp mark with race gas and the proper supporting mods. This would be considered a huge turbo for a 2.0L car. This turbo qualifies for Deadbolt's Free Rebuilds for Life program.

Deadbolt's SZ49 is a hybrid turbo, using a clipped TD06H turbine wheel mated to a 49lb/hr compressor wheel. Deadbolt's SuperZilla SZ49 includes Deadbolt's Monster Port (TM), Black Xtreme (TM) coating on the turbine housing, and Grey ceramic on the compressor housing. The SZ49 turbo is oil and water cooled and uses normal Subaru position inlets to the coolant supply lines. Deadbolt approximates that with the appropriate modifications and tuning this turbo can sustain 30 Psi and well over 450whp! This turbo has a 2.4" inlet, which will work with a stock-sized inlet hose and is internally wastegated. This turbo qualifies for Deadbolt's Free Rebuilds for Life program.

Deadbolt Zilla TD05H Turbos
Deadbolt's TD05H Zilla Turbochargers are designed for quick spool because of the TD05H housing. They do not have as much overall power ad the TD06H Turbochargers, but offer better driveability with less lag. All Zilla turbochargers offer Deadbolt's Black Xtreme(TM) coating-turbine housing, Grey Ceramic coating-compressor housing, and Monster Port(TM). Please note: JSC Speed does not normally stock the two turbos listed below because the Zilla TD05H-16G is close in size and price to the Zilla TD05H-18G and more expensive than the standard 16G for similar performance. The we also feel that the 20G Turbo is more suited to the TD06H housing, so we stock that, and not it's TD05H counterpart.

SuperZilla SZ49, SZ55, SZ60, & SZ65 TD06H & "Fat Boy" Hybrid Turbos
Deadbolt's SuperZilla turbos feature a clipped TD06H turbine mated to a much larger 49lb (or larger) wheel. These turbochargers include Deadbolt's Monster Port(TM), Black Xtreme(TM) coating on the turbine housing, and Grey ceramic on compressor housing. JSC Speed sells these as oil and water cooled, and Deadbolt's design uses normal Subaru position inlets to the coolant supply lines. Deadbolt's SuperZilla includes hard metal coolant supply lines which mount in the same direction as the factory style Subaru lines, banjo bolts, banjo bolt seals, oil return line, oil return line gasket, and stainless steel downpipe studs. SZ49 and SZ55 models available with standard 2.4 inch compressor inlet, or 3 inch compressor inlet. SZ60 and larger models are ONLY available with 3 inch inlet. 3 inch inlet WILL require the use of Tumble Generator Valve Deletes on cars equipped with TGV. Will also require a 3 inch Perrin or APS inlet tube. ALL SUPERZILLA(TM) oil and water cooled turbochargers qualify for FREE REBUILDS FOR LIFE!

SZ49: SZ49 models come with Deadbolt's 49 lb/min compressor wheel, special compressor housing, super-high-flow turbine wheel, and are available with a 2.4" or 3" inlet with an internal or external wastegate configuration. This turbo is capable of 400+ HP numbers, and is truly a bolt-on stock-location turbo when ordered with an external wastegate.

SZ55: Deadbolt's SZ55 is the newest, biggest, baddest bolt-on for the WRX/STi available with a stock-sized inlet. Deadbolt rates this turbo for 550+ HP and claims it can support 500 on normal boost-pump gas tunes. This monster comes with Deadbolt's 55 lb/min compressor wheel, super-duty cartridge, and Deadbolt's PROPRIETARY "Fat-boy" turbine wheel, and is available with an internal wastegate if needed!

SZ60: Although a "stock location turbo" this is NOT a bolt-on turbo. This turbo requires the use of a 3 inch inlet pipe (APS or Perrin), Tumble-generator-valve-deletes, and is only availlable as an external wastegate setup. Deadbolt rates this turbo for over 600 HP! The SZ60 comes with Deadbolt's 60 lb/min compressor wheel, super-duty cartridge, and Deadbolt's PROPRIETARY "Fat-boy" turbine wheel.

SZ65: Although a "stock location turbo", Deadbolt's SZ65 is NOT a bolt-on WRX & STi turbo. This turbo requires the use of a 3 inch inlet pipe (APS or Perrin), removal of the tumble-generator-valves, and is only available in an external wastegate configuration. Deadbolt rates the SZ65 turbo for nearly 650 HP! This monster comes with a 60 lb/min compressor wheel, super-duty cartridge, and Deadbolt's PROPRIETARY "Fat-boy" turbine wheel.

Deadbolt's Correct WRX & STi Turbocharger Break-In Procedure:
It is absolutely VITAL that certain steps be followed when installing a new or rebuilt turbocharger on a vehicle. Failure to follow the correct procedures will not only VOID your warranty, but will also cause premature failure, or destruction of your turbocharger.

1. Thoroughly clean out any oil supply lines to the turbocharger and oil coolers.
2. Change the engine oil and use a high-quality non-synthetic engine oil for turbocharger break-in.
3. Install the turbocharger and attach all bolts, lines, oil supply, etc. but DO NOT START THE CAR!!! AND DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE ANY TYPE OF SILICONE SEALANT ON THE OIL SUPPLY LINE!!!
4. Prime the oil system by cranking the engine over (WITHOUT STARTING IT) for 10-15 seconds, and repeat this step 3-5 times minimum. There are many ways to make sure that your car will not start, you can unplug the coil wire on vehicles with distributor-style ignition, or on vehicles with direct fire ignition, you can disconnect the coil packs, or the ignition relay. It is VERY important that your car DOES NOT START while pre-oiling the turbo.
5. After you have completed the above step you can start the car and allow it to IDLE ONLY.
6. Allow the vehicle to idle for 10-15 minutes without applying any throttle. Even at idle, the turbo can be spinning at as much as 28,000 RPM's on certain models. Use this time to check for any loose fittings, hoses, exhaust leaks, etc.
7. After idling the car as prescribed above, you may then begin to drive the car. Make every attempt to limit boost for the first 100-200 miles.
