| 06 WRX Borla Hush Install |
| This install is specific to a Borla Hush on to a 06 WRX Wagon, but will generally be applicable to installing any Borla exhaust on a Subaru, or most any exhaust on pretty much any car. |
Rules of Installation:
1. Read through this guide, and the manufacturer's instructions completely before starting this (or any install).
2.When you finish reading the instructions, read them again.
3. If you are not willing (or able) to use elbow grease/muscle/hammer/ingenuity to make your aftermarket parts fit correctly do not purchase or attempt to install aftermarket performance parts.
4. If you do not understand the processes involved in this install take your car to a professional or someone who does understand how to do the work.
5. If you are not comfortable under a car on ramps/jackstands/jacks do not do attempt to install an exhaust or any other parts that require you to be under a car on ramps/jackstands/jacks.
6. Make sure you have all of the hardware/fluids/components required BEFORE you start. Check to ensure that you have all of the tools to do this install, If you do not have something get it before starting. There is nothing worse then having to stop mid-install.
7. Do this at your own risk.
8. Use common sense. Lots of it.

| Enough of the legal stuff: On with the install. |
| Stock on the left, Borla Twin Tip Hush on right. Note the huge can on the stock unit and the flattened out resonator too. It's also interesting that the middle hanger is facing the opposite direction, which we didn't notice during the entire install.

1. After you have checked to make sure that you received all of the components required to do this job (hardware/gaskets/tools/bandaids/quarters for the swear jar) and have safely jacked up your car, the FIRST thing you should do is spray the hangers with some PB Blaster (it's like WD40, but it works). You should also give the nuts/bolts a squirt for good measure. Loosen the bolts that connect the cat back to the cat, the hangers will keep it up. Remove the hangers from the car, while keeping them attached to the exhaust--we worked from the tail pipe (which has two hangers) forward. There are four hangers on the WRX. Watch your head as the exhaust will fall after the hangers are removed (duh?!).
2. With the exhaust off the car, the rubber hangers should slip easily off the exhaust (thank you PB Blaster).
3. Slip the rubber hangers on the new exhaust. If you are using new hangers you can skip these two steps.
4. On the Borla systems they include a slip on flange to allow for adapting to either 2.5' (stock) or you can purchase the 3" (aftermarket) downpipes. Using the included new spring bolts attach the adapter (leave it off of the exhaust for now) making sure to have the donut gasket in place. Tighten these bolts just until they will stay in place. DO NOT crank them down at this time.
5. Slide the exhaust into place over the flange.
6. Make sure the coupler/brackets/clamps are on the pipe so the nut will face downward/outward to allow for easier tightening, but DO NOT tighten anything yet.

 |
7. Re-hang the exhaust, work from tailpipes in again.
8. Check the alignment of the tailpipes, ensuring they are centered (or not depending our your style).
9. We had to leave the middle hanger un-hooked to prevent the exhaust from rattling against the drive shaft and other undercarriage bit, but your application may differ slightly (remember rule #3).
10. Tighten all of the nuts and bolts. Tighten allof the nuts and bolts. Don't just crank one down then go to the next, treat this as if you were changing a tire and tighten them down circularly:Snug one, go to the next. Repeat until all are tightened. Check your alignment periodically too. An impact wrench or a larger ratchet is very handy here, especially with Borla's slip flange couplers. Tighten all of the nuts and bolts. Tighten all of the nuts and bolts.
