Catback Exhaust:
Manifold & Uppipe -
Downpipe -
Turboback Exhaust -
Rear Muffler |
 | The WRX & STi catback exhaust (named because it's everything behind the emissions cat) consists of a midpipe (green) and rear muffler (maroon). The WRX & STi catback exhaust attaches to the 2nd part of the downpipe (which contains the catalyst) and ends at the rear muffler tip.
NOTES:
1. Some catbacks exhausts feature a stock-type flange for easy bolt-on installation to a stock downpipe (Borla, Blitz, GReddy, etc.) Others offer a 3" flange (Perrin, HKS, Invidia, etc.) for optimal flow when used with a 3" downpipe. This should be considered when upgrading your WRX or STi's exhaust.
2. WRX & STi Catback exhausts are available in a variety of configurations; resonators will make the system quieter; a cannister muffler (such as HKS) will make it louder, a silencer (metal insert that goes into the muffler) can significantly reduce noise.
3. A WRX or STi catback exhaust consists of a mid-pipe and rear muffler.
