Exhaust Manifold and Uppipe:
Downpipe -
Cat-Back Exhaust -
Turboback Exhaust -

This portion of the WRX & STi exhaust system is designated as the pre-turbo portion. The exhaust manifold (gray) connects directly to the engine at the two D-shaped flanges. The manifold then connects to the uppipe (pink) which connects to the turbocharger (red). This setup is the same for all 02-07 WRX, 04-07 STi, & 05-07 Legacy GT models, and similar for almost all turbo Subarus.
NOTES:
1. The exhaust manifold is also referred to as a "header."
2. The uppipe in the 2002-5 WRX (2.0L Engine) & 05-07 Legacy GT (2.5L) contains a catalyst and should be replaced for improved turbocharger spool and to reduce the chance of it breaking up and damaging the turbocharger.
3. The turbocharger connects to the the uppipe (pink) and downpipe (not pictured)
4. Aftermarket replacement headers are available as just the manifold portion (Borla, DC Sports, HKS, & Perrin) or as a manifold and uppipe combination (Invidia & GT-Spec). |
