DC Sports Axle Back Install on a Scion tC
This install is specific to a DC Sports Axle Back Exhaust on a 2005 Scion tC, but will generally be applicable to installing any axle back on a tC.
Rules of Installation:
1. Read through this guide, and the manufacturer's instructions completely before starting this (or any install).
2.When you finish reading the instructions, read them again.
3. If you are not willing (or able) to use elbow grease/muscle/hammer/ingenuity to make your aftermarket parts fit correctly do not purchase or attempt to install aftermarket performance parts.
4. If you do not understand the processes involved in this install take your car to a professional or someone who does understand how to do the work.
5. If you are not comfortable under a car on ramps/jackstands/jacks do not do attempt to install an exhaust or any other parts that require you to be under a car on ramps/jackstands/jacks.
6. Make sure you have all of the hardware/fluids/components required BEFORE you start. Check to ensure that you have all of the tools to do this install, If you do not have something get it before starting. There is nothing worse then having to stop mid-install.
7. Do this at your own risk.
8. Use common sense. Lots of it.
Enough of the legal stuff: On with the install.
This install is extremely simple to do. If you are doing this on jackstands, you should be able to do it solo. If you are working on a lift, having an assistant is essential as it is difficult to hold the stock exhaust while removing the last hanger.
The stock tC exhaust has four pieces: Header, S-Pipe, Mid-Pipe, and Axle Back. The DC Sports tC exhaust only replaces the axle back. The axle back is the large, tank of a muffler and the tail pipe (below left). So, the first thing you need to do is spray PB Blaster on the only two bolts you need to undo to remove the stock axle back (below right). Also spray the three rubber hangers to make sliding them off the car a little easier.

Remove the two spring bolts and let the exhast hang from the hangers. Then remove each of the three rubber hanges from the car--I'm not sure what the absolute easiest order is to do that, I did the back right, the middle then the back left and the last one was a chore. Note the size difference in the two units (OEM on left, DC on the right). Do you think there is a weight difference?

Remove the rubber hanges fro the stock system and rehange them in on the car. The factory axle back is one section, while the DC Sports is two pieces. Install the "A" section of the DC Sports exhaust, using the two OEM spring bolts and two of the nuts DC supplied, but don't crank them down yet. You should also attach the "A" pipe to it's hanger (again it's easier to do if you spray the metal hanger with some PBB).

The rear section of the DC Sports (the part with the muffler and tailpipe) is a little tricky to get in, but if sprayed the metal hangers with lube, the install is much easier. Once you slip both hangers on to the exhaust use the DC supplied gasket and two nuts and bolts to attach "B" to "A". Now that everything is in place, you can go back and tighten the four bolts (tighten each one a little bit--like if you were changing a tire).
