| Wastegate Actuator: The SRT-4 has a weak stock wastegate spring, this is why boost on stock cars pegs out around 12-14 and then drops off at redline. When you try to raise the boost, it gets even more difficult. Traditionally it is accepted that boost can be within 200% of the wastegate spring, so on a stock wastegate and it's 4-5psi spring, you're looking about about 10 psi max for stable boost. The boys at AGP have designed a wastegate actuator with a stiffer 12-ish psi spring, allowing you to push your SRT-4 up into the 20s (READ: with fuel management and bigger injectors). I actually have an SBR wastegate actuator on my car, for reasons I can't even remember.

As you can see, installation is relatively straightforward. Go out and get a set of ratcheting open-ended metric wrenches for this one, the heatshield bolts are difficult to get to otherwise. The stock actuator comes off with 2 bolts, the new one bolts right on, and uses the OEM pin; just trim the heatshield with some tin snips and set the preload and you're done with the physical end of the install. REINSTALL THE HEATSHIELD; trim it, it's there for a reason.
VACUUM LINES: Your vacuum routing will depend on what you are using for boost control; the AGP comes with a plastic bleed valve for those looking to run off of spring pressure only. I reccomend using a manual boost controller to slightly raise the boost (16psi max, at your own risk!) and removing the factory lines. Do not reuse the factory lines. On my SRT-4, I use an Apexi AVC-R boost controller, so I ran one line to the turbo and one to the wastegate; nice and easy. |
