JSC Speed Project SRT-4: Perrin Turboback Exhaust
10/29/04, Perrin Turboback Exhaust: As soon as this exhaust system hit the market, we knew it was destined to go on our project car. There are several reasons for this: It is full stainless steel, it is fully flanged instead of the slip-fit stock stuff,it is a full 3" diameter, it utilizes a muffler and no resonators (kind of the flip side of the stock system, I think it gives it a better sound), and lastly it looks amazing and fits perfectly. Eliminating the cat and upping the piping size makes an amazing difference on the SRT4, the way the car pulls is unbelievable -- good thing we put those motor mount inserts in. As you can see from the pictures above, the Perrin exhaust follows the stock routing. Installation is pretty simple -- here are some basic tips/tricks:

PROCEDURE:
1. Unbolt the top bolt on the downpipe-to O2 housing flange before you put the car in the air (this bolt has a tab on it to keep it from spinning, you can't miss it -- it's 13mm and you can reach it from the engine bay).
2. Put WD40 on all the rubber hangers before trying to slip the stock system off of them, this makes it ten times easier.
3. Install the pipes in this order -- Jack the car way up in the front, put the downpipe on and bolt up the 4 bolts and install the O2 sensor. Then loosely install the midpipe (long backwards "L"). Then put the pipe that goes through the rear crossmember on -- to do this you will need to jack the car up with a piece of wood directly centered between the rear wheels. DO NOT PUT THE MUFFLER ON W/ THE JACK IN PLACE -- you won't be able to get it out. Lower the car off the jack and then install the muffler and tighten the connections. And keep in mind, if you want to remain a well-rounded individual, always remember to use jackstands before going under a car.

TIP:As a final suggestion, you may want to purchase a 10mm x 1.25 thread-cutting die and use it to thread the exhaust hangers on this exhaust, as it has a bad habit of occasionally falling off the rubber hangers and rattling.

END RESULT:This exhaust sounds awesome and the power gain is very noticeable. Don't believe me? See for yourself here: http://www.jscspeed.com/rides/project_srt4/perrin_turboback.AVI
