While I have been known to say that I think the 110hp I'm getting out of my 1600cc is respectable (laugh all you want, but 110 hp on a 173,000 mile 93 Miata is damn good), I too believe that their is no replacement for displacement. Enter the 1995 M-Edition donor car:
I bought this wrecked limited edition Miata with a friend of mine. The previous owner had put a decent amount of money into this Miata getting it track worthy: Coilovers, racing seats, harnesses, roll bar, header, exhaust--most all of the same type of mods I have on my car. One day in September, turn one of NJMP's Lightning course struck, and above is the result. The driver walked away, thanks to the safety equipment, but the car wont live to race again. Surprisingly the motor and suspension are un harmed, save for a busted radiator and power steering pump.
The reason I bought the car is the motor: This 95 Miata has a 1.8L (yes, that's 200cc more than my 93's powerplant) with only 43,XXX miles on it. The 1.8L makes 114hp in stock form, when a RB 4-1 header, test pipe, Borla exhaust and an intake and good tune are added 125hp is not unreasonable. I get the motor, trans, upgraded 4.10 Torsen LSD, header, and a couple sets of wheels and tires. My co-buyer is getting coilovers, brakes, a roll bar and a couple of sets of wheels. We are selling off the pieces that we don't want and are able to get off the car quickly, then the chassis is going to find it's way to a scrap yard.
My motor swap will get underway in February, in time to have the car sorted for a March/April track day. Stay tuned for more pictures to be added to all the pages here and for progress updates!
