| Lancer Evolution Perrin Manual Boost Controller Install |
| A manual boost controller is an excellent way to make your Evo's turbo more responsive, and to remove the restrictions in 1st and 2nd; as well as eliminate the boost taper at redline. The result is more power, faster acceleration, and quicker spool. |
Step 1: Remove the fan: That's right, the fan has to come out. Start by removing the intake or airbox; you can find instructions for this here. Then you will remove the rubber pipe that connects the upper and lower intercooler pipes. Next, remove the 12mm bolt that anchors the lower hard pipe to the chassis and push the pipe as far forward as you can get it.
Step 2: Keep Removing the Fan: Follow the driver's side of the fan, and look for the plastic wiring clip; cut or remove this, trace the wiring to the fan controller, unplug both plugs, and bend back the metal tab that holds the wires to the fan chassis. |
Step 3: Unbolt the fan controller: The fan can't come out of your Evo w/ the controller bolted to the back, so it needs to come off. 2x 10mm bolts, and you're done; don't let it drop. Now check to make sure the wiring is all disconnected, so there is nothing holding the fan in other than the two bolts to the radiator.
Step 4: Remove the fan, actually: Make sure your lower IC pipe is pushed as far forward as you can push it. Undo the two 10mm bolts securing the fan to the radiator, and CAREFULLY lift the fan out, towards the driver side, watching that you don't hit the radiator or cut off the hose going back to the overflow tank. You should now be looking at something similar to the bottom right picture below.
| Step 5: Remove the stock vacuum lines: Disconnect the stock vacuum lines from the turbo and wastegate (you can see them in the picture above. Remove them from the boost solenoid and cap the port (picture to the right.)Leave the line to the intake connected.
Step 6: Hook-up MBC Lines: Connect lines to the wastegate and compressor for the turbo (two ports shown to the left), and run them up near the intake.
Step 7: Put it back together: Reinstall the fan, fan controller, upper intercooler pipe, intake etc. Install your vacuum lines to the relative ports on your boost controller. Set your boost controller at it's full open (lowest boost) setting and adjust accordingly.
