Instead of ambient air flowing from the scoop, doing a 90 degree turn through the intercooler, then trying to escape out the bottom of the intercooler, the Alta Version 2.0 intercooler lets the air flow freer. The Alta Version 2.0 top mount intercooler uses a bar and plate intercooler for its huge internal volume and more surface area for better cooling. This type of core is good because of its greater resistance to road debris and rocks compared to tube and fin designs. Alta end tanks are precision cast to offer a smooth transition as air flows through the intercooler and back into the intake pipes. Every Alta Version 2.0 TMIC is pressure tested just before it is placed into the box ensuring no boost pressure lost.
Included with the Alta V2 intercooler is a dual stream, 180 degree water spray jet for extra cooling in extremely hot conditions. Spraying two streams of water in 180 degree fan patterns will douse every inch of you intercooler cooling through out the entire intercooler core. As air passes through the intercooler the evaporating water continuously cools throughout the entire length of the intercooler. This Alta water sprayer can increase the efficiency by over 200%. Also included with this Alta V2 TMIC is a heat shield to protect the intercooler from engine heat soak.
Dyno results with the Alta Version 2.0 Top Mount Intercooler on an otherwise stock Mini Cooper S show 6 hp and 5 ft/lbs torque at the wheels from 5000 rpm to redline and beyond. Modified cars (pulley, intake and exhaust) produce an additional 8-10 hp and 7-9 ft/lbs torque with this new Alta V2 TMIC.
