08-10 Mitsubishi Evolution X Lightweight Flywheels

A lightweight flywheel is a great addition to any car, especially turbocharged vehicles. The reduced rotating mass can get you into the higher RPM range faster; reducing turbo spool time and making for quicker ETs and general launches. However there is a dark side to a lighter flywheel: RPMs fall off faster. This can drop you out of your powerband too quickly. Also, be aware that using too light of a flywheel can trigger check engine lights in certain applications.

An aluminum flywheel is inherently lighter than a steel flywheel of the same size, however each style has both its advantages and disadvantages. The plus side of choosing an aluminum style flywheel is the convenience factor. When an aluminum flywheel wears out you do not need to get the flywheel professionally resurfaced, you simply bolt on a fresh friction surface (available separately) and go. The advantage to a single piece steel or chrome moly flywheel is the simplicity of a singular design with no extra hardware to ever replace or worry about.

The ACT Prolite flywheel is made using premium quality, forged chrome-moly steel that is then CNC machined then balanced. The ACT Prolite flywheel has more material removed from the outer rim than the Streetlite to get it down to it's super-light, CEL causing 9.6lbs. If you are planning to daily drive your 08-10 Evolution X on the street, in traffic you do not want this light of a flywheel. The Prolite is a RACE ONLY flywheel. The Prolite also features an induction-hardened integral ring gear, and is durable and thick enough to be resurfaced. Certified to SFI Specification 1.1.

The SPEC aluminum flywheel for the 08-10 Evo X is CNC machined and exceed SFI standards for high stress racing applications. The SPEC lightweight flywheels are recommended for highly modified street or racing vehicles. The body of the flywheel is made of tempered aluminums, either 6061 T6 or 2024 T3, for ultimate strength and lightest possible weight. The 1/4 inch thick friction plate is a 1050 high carbon alloy, for incredible durability with any friction disc material, even iron. The plates are secured to the body by aerospace fasteners. The heat treated ring gears are pressed on and secured with grade 10 fasteners.
