The Forced Performance Red Turbo isn't your average stock replacement turbo: The FP Red is capable of supporting up to 35psi of boost and can deliver over 550whp. This is one of the best bolt on turbochargers for the Evo 8/9 on the market. With boost coming on around 3700 RPM the FP Red is also very versatile and can be used for all types of motorsports; from road racing to drag racing this turbo stands out from the others. The FP Red is really designed to provide 22-24psi (good for about 450-500hp) on pump gas or 30-35psi (550-600hp) on race fuel, so if you are only looking to run 18-22psi you may want to look closer at the FP Green.
Forced Performance's custom 80mm Flow Advancement Port compressor cover helps reduce huffing and surging sounds that are often reported with larger, stock format hybrids when lugging the engine at low RPM and high boost pressure but perhaps even more useful is the way it helps feed the splitter blades of the compressor wheel resulting in increased flow. This larger inlet also increases the volume of the intake air pipe and reduces vacuum at the inlet of the turbo. Additionally the volute of the cover is now exactly tailored to the HTA wheel's aero for the best performance possible. The FP Red with 80mm Flow Advancement Port requires the FP Intake Air Pipe or a 3" coupler.
All FP Evo Red turbocharger come with an 18psi HP wastegate actuator. Forced Performance's HP Evo Red wastegate actuator features a heavy duty spring and does not crack open until boost reaches 18psi. If you plan on running high boost with race gas or methanol injection, your Evo will benefit from the extra spring pressure this 18psi WGA will provide. Using the 18psi HP actuator will result in retaining more boost higher into the RPM range compared to the stock Evo 9 wastegate actuator's meager 11psi threshold. The HP actuator isn't going to offer much benefit on pump gas cars running 20-22psi, but it isn't going to hurt you either. Be also advised that boost cannot be set BELOW 18psi when using FP's 18psi HP actuator; this may be a concern if you are not prepared to run your Evo with as much power as this set up will deliver.
- Notes:
- This turbo requires the FP 80mm intake pipe, available separately below.
- Installation of this turbo on the 03-05 Evolution 8 requires the separate installation kit, available separately below.
- FITMENT:

The Forced Performance Green and Red turbos require this 80mm (3") Intake Pipe to connect the factory MAF to FP's larger, 80mm inlet Flow Advancement Port turbochargers for the Evo 8-9 applications. The FP Intake Pipe retains the function of an OEM style recirculating BOV along with the BOV's position on the intake pipe, plus the FP Intake Pipe keeps the factory crankcase vent. Remember that running an unmodified factory air box beyond 350whp on the Evo 8 or 9 can lead to reduced power levels and possibly even damage to the turbocharger.
- Note:
- Does not fit the stock Evo 8/9 turbo or any after market turbo that does not have a 80mm Surge Port.
